My Story

Maite is one of 2 children of single mother, Cristina. Maite's older sister Roxana attends CDL’s Youth Mentorship Program. They have been a part of CDL since April 2014. Maite can often be found playing board games or chatting with the other girls in her class. Though she is quiet, she has great faith and is a very tender-hearted little girl. Maite and her family arrived at Casa de Luz in a very desperate situation, as Cristina and her husband recently separated. Cristina works at a local gas station. She is a very hard-working and dedicated mother, who clearly loves her children very much. Since being a part of CDL, Cristina completed her high school education and in 2018 enrolled herself in a local university. In 2021 she graduated with a teaching degree! It has been an absolute joy to see the way that Cristina has taken the opportunities that we have offered her, combined it with her own efforts, and seen tremendous growth and change in her family.
