My Story

Maite is the youngest child of single mother, Cristina. Maite's older sister Roxana also attends CDL with her. They have been a part of CDL since April 2014. When Maite initially started at CDL she was very shy, but over time we saw Maite become the gentle, kind, friendly and always smiling little girl that she is today. Maite can often be found playing games or running around outside with the other girls her age. Maite and her family arrived at Casa de Luz in a very desperate situation, as Cristina and her husband had recently separated. Since the separation, Cristina has not received any support from him. Cristina is a member of La Hermosa church, so she came to Pastora Aleyda asking for help. She was absolutely desperate and didn't know what to do, because with her low income she couldn't afford to pay for anyone to care for her daughters while she worked, and of course she couldn't stop working because she was now the only income in her household. Cristina works at a local gas station and is a very hard working and dedicated mother, who clearly loves her children very much. Since being a part of CDL, Cristina has completed her high school education and, in the fall of 2018, enrolled herself in a local university. It has been an absolute joy to see the way that Cristina has taken the help that we have offered her, combined it with her own efforts, and how tremendous growth and change in her family have come because of it.
