My Story

Roxana is one of 2 children of single mother, Cristina. Her younger sister Maite also attends CDL with her. When Roxana initially started at CDL she was very shy, but very quickly we saw Roxana transform into the warm, creative and intelligent little girl that she is. They have been a part of CDL since April 2014. Roxana and her family arrived at Casa de Luz in a very desperate situation, as Cristina and her husband recently separated. Since the separation, Cristina has not received any support from him. Cristina is a member of La Hermosa church, so she came to Pastora Aleyda asking for help. She was absolutely desperate and didn't know what to do, because with her low income she couldn't afford to pay for anyone to care for her daughters while she worked, and of course she couldn't stop working because she was now the only income in her household. Cristina works at a local gas station. She is a very hard working and dedicated mother, who clearly loves her children very much. Since being a part of CDL, Cristina has completed her high school education and in the fall of 2018 enrolled herself in a local university. It has been an absolute joy to see the way that Cristina has taken the help that we have offered her, combined it with her own efforts, and seen tremendous growth and change in her family.
