My Story

Joel is the only child of a single father who is also named Joel. They arrived at Casa de Luz in November 2017, after Joel Sr.'s wife unexpectedly and suddenly passed away. This family has experienced a great deal of loss, and with the sudden loss of Joel Sr.’s wife he was struggling to care for his son. He came to CDL to ask for help. Joel Sr. had been taking his son to work with him because he had no other alternative for his care and couldn't afford to pay for someone to watch him while he worked. Since being a part of CDL, Joel Sr. has completed his high school education as part of our Adult Completion Program and has opened his own woodworking and welding shop! We are so proud of this father and son and are so thankful for all God has done in their life. We continue to pray for this family, that God would bless Joel and really touch and heal his heart as he raises his son.
